Oily Skin

Summary

Oily skin is characterized by shininess, blemishes and pimples on the skin. Oily skin is caused by overactive sebaceous glands. The sebaceous glands produce sebum, a natural skin lubricating substance which keeps moisture in the epidermis. Patients can be treated with a variety of options at SpaMedica, with the primary goal of treating oily skin is to remove the excess sebum without disturbing the balance of the lipid layer.

Are You a Candidate?

The only time oily skin becomes a condition that needs to be treated is when the sebum attracts bacteria which clogs the pore and causes pimples or blackheads (see acne). People who suffer from oily skin will start their skin care journey with a complete consultation, which will explain oily skin, what it is and how to treat it.

Procedure Details

The SpaMedica SonoFacial procedure provides gentle ultrasound waves of energy to penetrate clarifying serums into the skin. The SonoPeel Microdermabrasion uses gentle cavitational forces to lift off and remove the dead outer scaly layer of skin that contributes to acne associated with oily skin. The SpaMedica Silk Peel uses a diamond microdermabrador to gently exfoliate the dead cells and then a clarifying serum is infused into the skin, leaving it fresh, clean and moist. Blue Light Therapy treatments can stimulate the body’s natural porphyrins, which will help control the formation of new acne lesions. SpaMedica’s oily Skin patients will benefit from the medical grade skin care that will be recommended to you to treat your oily skin.

Additional Procedures

Patients with oily skin can suffer from either a temporary or chronic condition. Recommended weekly Blue Light Therapy treatments and monthly microdermabrasion Silk Peels and SonoFacials may be the solution to the oily skin condition. Medical grade skincare will be advised to keep your oily skin under control and you complexion appearing healthy and youthful.
